Region Newsletter September, 2009
| Greetings from the Region Manager Steve Lastres | |
It is my pleasure and honor to serve you as the ARMA Northeast Region Manager for the next two years. I am pleased to have Cindi LeMay continue as our Region Treasurer and thank her for her dual role as acting Region Manager when Lorraine Anderson resigned from her Manager role for health reasons earlier this year. I am also pleased to have David Pita, past President of the Boston Chapter, join the Region team as Region Coordinator.
The Northeast Region of ARMA International is comprised of 8 chapters with over 1,000 members who are primarily Records & Information Management professionals. They are: Boston, Western New York (Buffalo-Niagara and Rochester), Central New Jersey-Princeton, Central New York (includes Syracuse and Albany), Connecticut, Long Island, Metropolitan New York City, and Northern New Jersey-Summit. To more efficiently serve you, the Region team will be assigned to support specific chapters. This year's assignments are as follows:
Steve Lastres: Connecticut, Long Island, Central New York, and Western New York Chapters
Cindi LeMay: Boston and Central New Jersey Chapters
David Pita: Metropolitan New York and Northern New Jersey Chapters.
You can email us at: regionteam@armanortheast.org
The Northeast Region offers financial assistance and grants to chapters for educational projects and long-term records and information management projects. A Grant Committee is responsible for reviewing region grant submissions.
The region sponsors a Leadership Development Conference every year. This conference is generally held in June and its purpose is to educate chapter leaders on how to better administer their ARMA chapters. The conference is held at a different location in the Northeast Region each year. This year's conference held in Boston was attended by 28 Chapter leaders from across the Region. We met in Boston for two and half days. The attendees raved about the programming and networking opportunities. We have already formed a committee to scout a venue for the 2010 conference. The Region's web site is now one year old and with a new look. Please remember to visit www.armanortheast.org to learn about Chapter and Region events. The purpose of the site is to promote Chapter, Region and ARMA International events and to promote the RIM profession. We also link to all of the Chapter web sites throughout our Region. On the site you can find a Speaker directory submitted by chapters who have had a positive experience with speakers on various RIM topics. You will also find a Resources page that links you to other RIM related web pages that may be of interest.
I look forward to meeting many of you in Orlando for the ARMA International Conference. We have a Region Reception scheduled for Wednesday, October 15 at 5 pm. A list of upcoming events can be found in the "DATES TO REMBER" section of this newsletter.
Please do not hesitate to contact me or anyone on the Region team if we can be of assistance to you. Regards, Steve Lastres |

| Northeast Region Leadership Development Conference Review | |
From the elect President David Lowry
I was recently elected the president of the Central New York Chapter and never having held such a leadership position in ARMA I had some trepidation coming into office. So I decided it was a good idea to attend the ARMA Northeast Leadership Development Conference in Boston this past June. Central New York is a small chapter so we didn't have a lot money to pay my expenses and in these tough economic times there was no chance of financial assistance from my employer. Then I discovered there were leadership training grants available from ARMA and I was lucky enough to get one. More...
